Hi!
frow.gif

I am new to this site and i'm not sure if i'm doing this properly, but i just have a quick question:
My hen has a growth on her lower back, it is a narrow but long, and kind of shiny lump (it is skin coloured).

If anyone knows what this might be or if I should be concerned about it, let me know!

Thanks

I hope this picture will do!

(i also noticed that the feathers around this area seem a bit greasy and dirty)

Hello and welcome to BYC!

That is the preen gland. It's an oil gland they rub their faces on and then preen and rub their feathers to keep the skin and feathers in top condition.

It is supposed to have feathers growing out of it as yours does, and it looks perfectly healthy.

So nothing to be concerned with! :)
