Growth on egg

Had something really strange/odd today. Gathered the eggs this evening and one of them had a stem sticking out the egg. It wasn't stuck to the egg, but was coming from inside the egg and sticking out of the egg about an inch 1/2 long. I don't know that much about chicken anatomy, but it looked like an umbilical cord for a baby. Anyone ever seen one of these before or have any idea what it is. I don't know if I have a problem with the hens or not. In five years I have never seen anythink like it.

I've occasionally seen eggs like that. It's just a glitch in the system, not a problem.
