growth on rhode island reds face

I am rather new to chicken raising, so I don't know a whole lot of options as to what it could be, but from your picture, it looks exactly like my chicken's problem. If she does have the "fungal junk", I am going to say it's canker. You can look at my link/post and see what the images looked like I opened my chicken's mouth and it had that yellow cottage cheese looking growth. Since I have been giving her that medicine listed above, it has greatly improved and she only had a tiny little lump now, after about a week. Your chicken's lump is bigger than what my chicken's was. But you should go ahead and take care of it before it spreads further. Canker is known to be fatal if in certain places, and can be contracted from chicken to chicken.

The avian vet called me wednesday and I told him all about the swelling and what I'd read ..he said no problem I am open til 7 and will have what you need. I went straight there and he gave me metronidazole 500 mg tablets to be dissolved in one quart of water to feed all the birds in that coop for 21 days...I got out a one gallon chicken waterer and put the dissolved tablet and one quart of water in the chicken yard ziptied to a fencepost.. I removed all water containers and bleached the stew out of them. When I looked it looked like the gang at an office gathered around the water fountain...they loved it...it didn't take long and it was empty..so I put their pool with fresh water in it back in for them...its a working system for me. How is your chicken?
