So...out of the goodness of our hearts we decide to donate some items that we no longer need. It includes clothing, brushes, etc. Also included are pots/pans/cooking utensils and the best thing (or so I thought) were various printers.

2 of the printers are HP that were maybe $17? The other one is a copier/scanner/printer All-in-One. I called them and asked if they'd accept them and they said yes. All of this stuff was in GREAT condition.

I get there and ask where to donate. They tell me and I drive around. My stuff is taken out of the car where they dump it on the concrete. The glass top to a small croc-pot breaks and they tell me they can't accept if it it's broken. Um...they JUST broke it. They look over the pots and pans and say "these are crappy" when I use pots and pans that are the same thing...I just happen to have multiples of it.

They refuse to accept the printers without giving me a reason and throw the clothing to the side like yesterday's garbage. I ask if I need to sign anything and they say "No...we're probably not going to use any of this anyway."

If that were the case I could have saved that "stuff" from them and thrown it in the trash where some hobo would have found it and loved it. Where do they get off telling me my stuff is trash and that it isn't good enough for them to use?

So I say "alright..I'll just pawn off the printers." Wrong. Nobody will pawn off printers.

So now I'm stuck with the All-In-One, and two printers that I'm probably gonna have to sell on Craigslist, because I see no need in throwing away PERFECT printers! They all work great. I just happened to find a REALLY good one for $25 on sale at Wal-Mart for Christmas....

Sorry...just made me really angry. I don't think I will ever donate again. The same thing happened with Habitat for Humanity when I tried to give away my sofa that I'd been using, some paintings, some fans and a recliner that was too small for us. Grrr...

So...one's man's trash may not be another's treasure according to them?

We had that happen when we cleared out my mom's house after she died.
We called the Salvation Army, got a list of what they wouldn't take and had everything ready according to their guidelines. They got there and started to pick and choose what they wanted.
I told them that if they were going to pick and choose we would just call this a yard sale and they could pay us. I said we had everything here that they said on the phone that they would take. Take it all or go away emptyhanded.

They argued, we told them to leave and called Amvets who took it all.

Wow, how rude!

I'm sure if you set the printers in front of your house/driveway on a nice day with signs that say "free" they'll be gone in no time!

When younger I was tought a song about the salvation army...
Salvation Army, Salvation Army, put a nickle in the drum save another drunken bum, Salvation Army, Salvation Army!

I had the same issue here. They went on TV asking people to make donations so I brought down baby/toddler clothes, toys, and a few other things and they acted like I was wasting their time by bringing perfectly good stuff in.I ended up packing it all up and bringiing it to the Once Upon a Child in St.Joe and they took it all and gave me $30 store credit.

Wow, I know Goodwill started doing the pick and choose several years ago but I am surprised that the salvation army has also started doing it. Makes you not want to donate anymore.

Wow, that is really rude. I usually drop my stuff off at Goodwill and have never had them go through it. They just grab the boxes and send me on my merry way!

Ive been in a SA where I use to live shopping for furniture when we bought our house. I thought their prices were HIGH! I mean HIGH! I could have almost bought brand new stuff for the prices they were asking!

Just next time donate the stuff in the walmart parking lot bins. No ones there to pick and choose
