Grrr, Wanting Something for Nothing & No Appreciation for Fine Hand Quilting....A Rare Speckledhen

What do you mean off the mountain? I am not going down this mountain till It clears up a bit. Need to go to Wally World, TSC and Lowe's.

I mean literally off our mountain. We live on a small mountain with surrounding taller mountains. It can be tricky getting down onto a semi-main road when it's icy. We do have AWD on one vehicle, but the semi-main road is curvy with lots of shaded spots that can throw you into a ditch if you don't see black ice. I need to go to the co-op for layer pellets and shavings (we have a TSC but I refuse to buy from them unless it's a dire emergency) and Walmart for some barn sloggers, fabric and a few other miscellaneous things. But, nothing is critical. Schools were closed today because of all the icy mountain roads. High today is 40* or so, but it's been so darn cold, that feels spring-like in the sun.

Really cold. Yesterday when I got up it was 1 degree. Not counting wind chill.
I have no choice to get feed from TSC the nearest feed mill Would be a 4 hour ride In good weather. I have too many babies and it costs so much. My chickens and goats eat my Social Security check.

Well, you gotta get it where you can. I'm very lucky to have a county co-op that is less expensive and is managed by a lovely woman who is wonderful to deal with. When we first moved here, the management was not that pleasant so I shopped at another feed store, but their feeds were always buggy and nasty, got worse later on. I eventually had to report that one, another woman, to the state for having obviously sick birds "free ranging" throughout the store among the customers and for bad and crowded conditions. She would take chicks from the shipments, take them to her place to raise up and bring them back and charge exhorbitant amounts of money for them. Then, a high-end free store/country store opened, prices too high on most things. When the co-op was under new management, it was then the best place to buy. And then two TSC's opened on either side of me but unless I have some particular need that the co-op cannot fill (and that would be unusual), I don't buy chicken supplies from them. I did buy my driveway gate from TSC years ago.

Will be glad when this snow melts.
Me, too. It's getting there. 40* this morning, will be 50* for a high today. DH wanted to go into town ASAP to get the Walmart deli sale items they put out early, but I was so tired this a.m., I will have to go out to shop for fabric and my barn sloggers later today. He had been up for 4 hours because of the cat when I finally got up. It takes me awhile to get moving so that I don't drop things and trip over my own feet. With ice and snow all over, best I stayed home to get my blood moving before I venture out.

What are you changing for this one? Son interested in the purple and green.

You son has a good eye-I think this was one of my best designs,. lots of visual punch. You understand I cannot replicate that exactly- most of those fabrics are long gone. The pattern, I could do, yes, but I'd have to purchase the fabrics again, though it can be done. I may have some of the scraps left in my Rubbermaid tubs since the pieces are not all that large. The white in the Indian Star blocks that surround the center medallion is long gone, will have to definitely buy that again. Purple and green is my absolute favorite color combination, in sage and lavender tones, mostly. Rose and teal another one way up on my list.

Here is how I usually price custom work, not your price for the above quilt, because you would get a generous discount. Since I've made this one previously, it's not anything new to me, just have to get the fabrics I need that I used up over time and in the last one. This was copied from my Blue Roo Creations FB page from my analysis of what it costs in time and money for me to make a quilt:

Quote:
Twin, $275-300. Full size $350-375. Queen, $500; all of these are simple random-pattern machine quilting.
Those are basic prices and any extra work/expense, longer overhang, etc, may jack them up a bit. I don't even quote King size machine quilted quilts since I just don't do them. A HAND quilted king size quilt would be way up there in price due to the amount of fabric and sheer hours of work involved, though not as high as the Amish quilts online you may have seen. Some patterns I just won't do for folks because the piecing is too complex. And it could take six months or more for me to complete a king size hand quilted bed quilt for someone, so I prefer to make, then sell.
That quilt was a queen size, though you could, of course, put it on a full size bed and have more overhang, but it is considered a queen. I'd have to look up the actual finished size of it, can't recall that. I swore I'd never do another queen size quilt on my machine, but I always say that, LOL. It's a struggle, but I manage. As I tell people, though they say that everyone should get a deposit, if I take commissioned work, most of the time I just say let me make it and then see if you like it. If you don't, I will sell it to someone else, no problem.

Told adult son, you prefer to make and post pic to sell.
Just like the Mennonites ladies do. They make and put in their shop and sell that way. We will have to visit you fb page and see your other pics.

I did find some rose and teal fabrics at another Walmart this afternoon. And I am trying to find more white tone-on-tone fabric for the one your son likes. Which quilt would you rather have if I make it, your peacock/teal and rose or your son's preference? I will get started on one or the other, may make both, but of course, that will take time.

Oh my. Spent my life meeting people from all walks of life and other countries. I have Never met a stranger.
