Grrr, Wanting Something for Nothing & No Appreciation for Fine Hand Quilting....A Rare Speckledhen

Pics
Was sick all day myself, spent all day in bed, some stomach thing from last night's chili I guess. No idea why it doesn't sit well with me. So, I didn't get to go to Hobby Lobby or work on the quilt today, but I have 22 blocks finished.
Sorry to hear your ill. Hope your on the mend soon.

Still not 100%, but much better than yesterday, thank you.

Got a bit more done, have another block mostly finished. When I get to Hobby Lobby and get some different fabrics (hopefully) for the outer sections of the blocks, will forge ahead and complete them and arrange them in the best way, but here is the design wall so far. The camera makes the rose-pinks appear more red than they are. And it's amazing to me how "together" it looks when the quilting is in. I think it calls for a minimal border after all the blocks are done to frame it.

This is only from near the center over to the left side. My design wall isn't large enough for the entire quilt.

Hot pink and Turquoise are good colors to add to Rose and Teal. Thank you for pic. I see from the wall the room is yellow. I hope it is just that glow on the quilt.i tend towards colors a bit on the blues side.

It's really not a hot pink, per se. Most all these fabrics are rose or rose pink to almost magenta, but the one that is showing "hotter" than the others is a fuchsia pink used on the outer, last round of some of them.

I do think the colors being shades off the main ones add depth to the quilt. If they were all exact teal and rose colors in different fabrics (if they could even be found, that is!), it would seem a bit more one-dimensional, though still lovely. I went to a local quilt shop and got 2 fat quarters in teal, could find no rose at all in the ENTIRE quilt shop that did not veer toward rust. Maybe this week, we can get to the Hobby Lobby for more fabric, preferably in the rose tones, which are super hard to find for some reason, maybe because we're coming off fall and Christmas colors in the stores.

I rearranged the blocks and made a few more, but I think this lighting shows the colors a tad more true than the other photos did, except that it now makes greens fade back and the more bluish tones come forward, something you do not see in person. I find it interesting how folks interpret color. I bought a fabric online that was called "Tonal Teals". Well, to me, it is more turquoise than teal, though it truly has both values in it, but the overall look is definitely more turquoise, or what I know as turquoise. I used it in here, but in photos, it appears to catch more of the blues than the greens that are in it, which is a trait of the cheaper cameras, I have found. In person, you can see the greens in it much better.
Was looking for definitions and thought I'd post this, though still, it's in the eye of the beholder which a color really is (and a man and woman will say something different, trust me!) Some say teal is green and turquoise is blue and some say the opposite, but they are fairly close depending on the depth of color. The more you read, the more confused you get! I got a fabric that is actually called teal, but if you look at representations online, you'd think it would be turquoise. Ack! Anyway, needless to say, this quilt has both in it and they fade into one another in the piece.

On that page is says this:

Quote:
Is Teal Blue-Green or Green-Blue? It's both. Or either. The many shades of teal run the gamut from a deep, rich green tinged with blue (teal green,) to a bright, cheery blue mixed with just a dab of green (teal blue.)

Soooo beautiful. Love what your doing. Can not wait to see it on my bed.

I'm glad you like it! I love the colors, personally. Good choice! Now, even after this is finished, I'm going to keep buying them because they've been so hard to find! May make a few lap quilts in the same colors if I have enough leftover scraps.

Personally I have used Rose & Teal, Hot Pink & Turquoise, as well as Fuchsia & Turquoise since the 60's. The colors go well with Black and Winter White.

I have only the top row and right side row left to assemble, then a small border to frame, then ready to quilt. Question: Which type batting would you prefer or does it matter? I've used cotton, cotton-poly blends and lately have just been using a polyester that doesn't seem to beard like other brands. Cotton or a blend will be flatter than the poly though I use a low loft poly most of the time. I like a blend better than straight cotton, but it's up to you.
And thread, which color? The backing fabric is a rose print, almost a solid, but I was thinking a light gray would complement all of the colors and not fight with the rose or the teals. Once I wash it before sending to give it that crinkly-quilty look and feel, it won't be showing that much anyway.
