My cat drag a little chick into the house and I took it from her and now Im raising it. I started reading about chickens and I got into chicken coops and now I'm building for guachu (the rooster) and probably two or three girlfriends a coop.

I wanted to do a cheap and simple design but I think I maybe I took some bad decisions.

Is not finish but this are the first pictures of it:

this is the frame of all. Height 3.3 feet (1 meter), width 4.9 feet (1.5 meters) and 6.6 feet (2 meters) long

I used 1 inch pine sticks.

And here yo can see where I will build the nesting boxes out of pvc sheets.

Here are the divisions These are 1 x 1 feet aprox (a litle bit big)

Now I will finish this this weekend. The roost stick will be in front of the nesting boxes a litle bit above (I just read that they like the roost in high places and higher from the nesting boxes so they dont roost in the nesting boxes, if I new that I would have made the nesting boxes lower but you live and you learn). I will put a Ladder so they can climb into the roost and jump into the nesting boxes.

So I will update this next week and I wanted to know what you think and if you think I could fit 4 birds in there (one rooster and 3 hens) also this will be in the back of my house. the place you see is the front of the house and I built it there because of the concrete floor. Is easy and clean for me to build it there.

Cheers!

Its almost finish

I will put an over sealling and more steps for the ladder.

That is so nice you rescued the chick. And he looks like a handsome boy too. I would be concerned about predators though with your current situation. Maybe anchor down your pen and add an electric wire around it unless you could dig down 12 inches around the base to bury some chicken wire. And possibly add some 2 x 4's to make it more dog resistant. What area are you in; what predators do you have in your area? Is weather going to be an issue? We have fox and coyotes so it would need to be stronger in my area.

Hey thank for commenting. Yeap Now Im into raising chicks, jejeje. This week I bought 3 baby chicks (4 days old) and Im really enjoying them. Didnt think they will be so much fun and pretty. I will post about that soon.

About the predators Im thinking on make¡ing a rectangle of bricks the same size of the coop base and then anchor down the coop to the base. That brick rectangle will be almost all the way into the floor (dirt). what do you think about that? I think that the brick will also help to prevent the wood from gettin soak as the water will drain below the bricks. And here we have possums and snakes. A side from domestic cats there is not really another predators. Saddly, I will love to have raccoons over here. jejejeje

And about the wheater here is nice almost all the time (60ªF min to 100ªCF max, but mainly between 70 and 90). Rain could be a problem but I allready build the over sealling. Soon I will take some pictures.

Cheers!
