Occasionly, we have squirrels come to our feeder. (I think they've just got used to cayenne pepper...) Well, the other, day, 4 of our 5 gold sex links just happened to be out in front. They saw this big, fat squirrel up on the bird feeder, and they love to eat the seed that falls down. But not, apparently, when there's a squirrel there! So the girls set up a ruckus, hollering and buck-buck-buCACK-ing all over the place. Then, lo and behold, here comes #5, tearing around the corner of the house. She heads straight for the feeder, head bobbing, wings flapping, and screaming. The squirrel is frightened by this (I was too!!) and scampers away, the hen hot on his tail, wing flapping and legs whirring. By this time, of course, we were all rolling on the floor laughing our heads off. The squirrels escapes up the tree, with the hen standing there, clucking loudly. You could see the steam coming out of her ears!

After a few tense moments, she gives one more final cluck, ruffles her feathers, and comes walking slowly back to her pals. Needless to say, she got a few treats!

I have a rosecombXd'uccle mix who is very territorial about "her" yard. DH and I were sitting in the yard talking one afternoon and we noticed a dove fly in and start pecking around, well Kizzy noticed it too and she started running towards the dove flapping and screaming like a banshee! The dove took off and so did Kizzy, she flew a little ways and landed. We laughed and were amazed that she had chased the poor dove "intruder" out of her yard. Needless to say she is the dominant hen in our little flock.
