Hi I have a new flock consisting of 10 chickens (various breeds) and 5 muscovy ducks, 1 male and 4 female. I know some from when my grandmother kept chickens but I know very little about the ducks. My question one of my muscovy hens seems to be on guard watching over the others. She and the drake are older than the other hens by a few weeks. Is this something others have noticed?

Welcome to BYC from Middle Tennessee :welcome My older ducks are much more astute about their surroundings and do seem to watch over the rest of the flock. They are first to sound the alarm when aerial predators make an appearance and shoe others away from the fence when they suspect a ground attack.:highfive::yesss:

Thanks I'll post there, newbie here so.... hahaha
Part of our role is to point peeps in the right direction to get the help they need - absolutey no reason not to ask here, as part of your introduction :)
