Howdy,

I have 11 chickens and originally wanted them to free range in a small field. But the darn neighbors cat gets in to the field and stalks the chickens so I've been keeping them in the yard, driveway, bushes etc. But when they are kinda getting poop every where. Our lab could keep an eye on them but he goes after them sometimes.

Would a few geese protect them from that dang cat?

I have my geese as a deterrent, but not as a sure means of protection. They keep an eye on the sky better than my ducks do and are hostile towards my cats and dog, but haven't actually attacked them.
I would say geese make for better alarm systems than for actual guards, although that is debatable as well.

They might help some. My geese would try to go after my cats and hiss at them if they walked up. I don’t know if they’d be much help though

A goose would protect them from a mountain lion. Seriously, Geese are mean af. I got a male when I went to pick up a chicken. He kept trying to have sex with me and he hurt. I thought I had cancer because my legs were covered with fluid filled bumps but then I connected the bumps to him. I finally had it and went on the search for his future girlfriend. I got him one and within 20 minutes they were doing it in the pool. Last night I found out she decided to sit on her eggs and she bit me on the leg. When I bent over to grab my leg she pulled my hair and bit my head. She is soooo lucky Im a vegetarian. She is laying the eggs on a cat scratching post. I can handle two more babies but that is it and I need some good homes. I dont know where you are but if you are interested let me know.

A mountain lion, huh?
Seriously, mean AF, huh?
Goose sexing you up hurts, huh?
I've learned a lot here.

Well we dont actually have mountain lions but if one of my dogs even go within a few feet of the chickens I have to make a run for the dog. He is blind and doesnt know whats coming until its too late. The other dogs stay far away and will prefer to go in with the donkey and pony to get away from the geese. And yeah a big ass goose jumping on your back biting you really does hurt and I had some really bad bruises.
