I just rehomed a couple roosters and now I am freaking out over my girls having a sentry. Any suggestions on what would alert them to a hawk besides a rooster or livestock guard dog? They free-range and I can't change that, come into their coop at night and take an afternoon nap in the barn. I don't really have any other predators that will bother them during the day except for hawks.

Goose? Turkey? Something kind would be nice! The girls are so busy this time of year that I'm afraid they won't pay full attention!

One of your hens may become your new flock leader and give alarms for hawks and such. I've also heard a few geese work wonders when it comes to flock protection.
