They’re supposed to have variegated leaves! And the fruits start out striped before ripening to a solid red. I just hope they’ll be spicy enough, I’m used to cayenne.
I've never grown anything but the green and red bell peppers.

Has anyone grown jalapenos? I like to make jalapeno poppers, but I bought them at the farmer's market. Maybe you could do that with these peppers?

I have grown jalapenos but they didn't get really big. The year I planted my cayenne peppers in a different area of the yard they were extreme in production. I have to wonder that with the name fish pepper if they would have a fish taste. Let me know what they taste like because I might try those next year. I did manage to get some Tai chillis the year before last. Everyone said oh no you can't eat those. I didn't know any difference of the heat or taste.

First bean bloom of the year! (With a cameo from a potato.)

I tried growing some jalapeno from a hot pepper blend seed packet. I only got one pepper off of it and it didn’t have viable seeds so I haven’t tried growing them again.

Poppers sounds like an interesting idea though. 🤔

I think it’s because they were commonly used on fish as a spice, but I will keep you posted!

Always grow one or two jalapenos each year, along with anaheims and poblanos. Love making (ok, really its eating not making) rellenos and poppers, and poblanos take the place of bell peppers in everything I cook. Mild like bell peppers but with a smoked back taste, yum. Any way I grow them exactly like tomatoes. They'll even grow in 5 gallon buckets, they love the heat and sun. I do shade them from late afternoon sun when the weather gets too hot, over 90*.

I grow jalapenos every year. They always get big and produce a lot of peppers. The peppers are about 4 or 5 inches long and I love making poppers with them. I air fry the poppers, so good. My farmer uncles always said that for pepper plants, they need to be planted a lot closer together than people normally plant them. The plants like to touch each other a little bit. When I started doing that, they grow and produce like crazy

Do your uncles or you have any wisdom on mixing pepper types with that? I'm limited to a few raised beds and have only allocated space for 1-2 each of 4 different peppers.

I plant four different types of peppers and plant them all so they all touch each other. The bells will touch the jalapenos that will touch the paprikas that will touch the banana peppers. Or whichever way I plant them that year. Not always in that order. And when I say touch each other, I mean just the leaves touching, when they get big enough

Do you save seeds? Do they come true?

So like 12" apart?
