Guess the breed-Chicken

EE? OEGB? Welsummer? I'm so sorry for you, it's so sad when they die.

EEs are not a breed, it is a label given to chickens who have a Blue egg laying gene in their bloodline and most often lay a green egg, but sometimes they can lay blue or brown, depending on what their genetic influence is. Interestingly enough, I learned last winter from a LONG time chicken breeder, that the egg color gene actually is carried by the rooster and not as influenced by the hen.
Easter Eggers, in other words, are mutts, not a breed.
Along with that, Ameraucana is a term that is used WAY too often by people who don't know the difference and by hatcheries who advertise their Easter Eggers as Ameraucanas. Ameraucanas are an actual breed with specific characteristic and are accepted by the American Poultry Association. There are specific recognized colors of Ameraucanas.
Easter Eggers have NO specific colors or patterns. There are some colors and color patterns that often will show up in Easter Eggers, but to say "that is an Easter Egger color" would be an incorrect statement.
For example, I had a hen that laid a khaki colored egg that I hatched from this last season. She was totally black and had mostly black legs with a little yellow showing on them. I crossed her with a Partridge Cochin rooster and their offspring looked like everything from all black like the hen to mostly Partridge looking like the rooster with varying amounts of feathering on the legs. I also have a hen who looks like she is an Easter Egger with the beard and the goofy looking comb and a shape similar to an Ameraucana, but she lays a brown egg. Like I said, EEs are mutts, and mutts will take on varying degrees of the characteristics of the lineage.
