A long haired Mali is technically a Terv. You can have both in the same litter. Happens in Europe more than it does here because we've separated the varieties for so long. It's a Mali or a Terv due to its characteristics, not due to lineage, except according to AKC. A long coated pup born in a litter of AKC Malinois would be in deep guano if it ever stepped foot in an AKC conformation ring but would do fine in UKC since it would be a Belgian Shepherd, variety Tervuren.
