I just lost 4 of my LF Cochins today, thanks to a rat that has made his way into the 'compound'. I was in tears when I found the Blues I hatched for my daughter to show, or was hoping they would be good for her to show, 2 dead, on damaged so bad I had to put him down, a Splash cockerel I hatched from Aceschix this year and one of only 2 of my remaining capons, all either dead or needed to be put down. I was sick.
Then, my favorite roo, though he got a little big for his britches last year, decided he was charge me again. That was it. I told him that if he did it again, he was compost. Well, he didn't listen. I ended up jabbing one of his spurs into my thumb trying to do what was necessary and he is feeding worms now.
So, not a real fun day for Senora Pollo Loco

Aw Theri, I'm so sorry about your Cochins. I hope you catch the rat. . but I know that's easier to say then do.. LF BBS are my favs, I know how attached you can get to them. Then to add insult to injury. What a day you had!

My roo Ruby Rod is a mille fleur, they're the only Cochins I have until ... hopefully ... my eggs hatch.

I thought about getting some when I first started with chickens, but then decided against getting many bantams. I have Silkies and Bantam Wyandottes now though. If I were to get more it would be Cochins. I have BBS and Partridge now. I should say BB, since I have only Blue and Black right now, in adults that is.

Thanks for the hugs, I was so angry and sad all at the same time. When DD came after me, that was it! I put him in a cage until I could dispatch him.
