Yup, Hamiltonstövare. There's actually an American parent club. It's in the AKC Foundation Stock Service now.

Hamiltonstövare History

The Hamiltonstövare is a native breed of Sweden, where it was founded in the late 1800's by the founder of the Swedish Kennel Club, Count Adolf Patrick Hamilton. Count Hamilton sought a sturdy hound that could hunt both hare and fox. He used English Foxhounds, Harriers, and three now extinct breeds from Germany; the Curlandish Hound, Holsteiner Hound, and Heiderbracke. The hounds credited with founding the breed were known as Pang and Stella. The breed has even made it into Swedish folklore; a small elf name Tomten, is accompanied by a Hamiltonstövare named Karo, they are said to help Swedish housewives.

The breed was needed to hunt in difficult terrain and a harsh climate. Unlike its English relatives, the breed was not developed to hunt in a pack. It was used as a solitary hunter or as a pair. The breed needs to be flexible to negotiate the terrain of Sweden, which is mainly mountainous and forest land. Like many of the scent hounds, it uses its voice to inform the hunter of its location. Instead of showing the hunter to the game in a den, they will push their quarry to the hunter. So with that hunting style in mind, they must have endurance and intelligence in spades. Like many working hounds the breed does tend to vary slightly based on the terrain that it covers to hunt.

The breed still performs its original purpose in Sweden where the breed has a popular following. They were first shown in Sweden in 1921 where they were known as the Swedish Hound. The name has since changed to honor the breed founder. Hamiltons have recently started to make an impact around the world.

I don't believe it's recognized by AKC yet. I found it while trying to figure out Kevin's Cusav last night. It was on a list of LGDs

That means I got it right too

I was hoping that the perro (perrp?) would stump at least a couple people. I have a couple others lined up that I hope will be a little tough as well
