Does anyone know when or where Cane Corsos originated?
A Mastiff breeder once told me that Tobin Jackson created them (in the 70s? or 80s? I don't remember the when) and made up an "origin" for them. He said it made sense because in all of the old dog books Cane Corsos are never mentioned, even in books that include every other obscure breed known to man.

but in my library I have 7 all breed dog encyclopedias and atlases and 3 mastiff breed encyclopedias, [not a complete collection by any means, but...] (reading about dogs used to be a hobby of mine, 20 years or so ago I would have been much better at this game!) and Cane Corsos are in none of them. Had anyone ever heard of them before the 80s or whenever it was they became popular <-- Recently?
I didn't hear it from Tobin Jackson himself, I heard it from a Mastiff breeder who said he had a personal discussion with Tobin about it. Tobin Jackson had Deer Run Mastiffs for decades and bred a lot of dogs, it's hard today to find a Mastiff who does not go back to his lines. (There are actually breeders who devote their breeding program to dogs who do NOT go back to his line.) He and a few other breeders took the basic formula for a Bandog and developed their own line, created a "breed" and made a complete fabrication of a history for them, then decided to see how far they could go with it.
Hm. But I admit I could be completely wrong. I couldn't find a Boerboel in any of my books either.

Cane Corso's are a fairly old breed but the actual Modern Cane Corso has been around since the breeding program began in the 70s. I'm pretty sure the 80s is when they were imported to the US

Over the last 13 years of my Mastiff research and STILL not actually ever having one

I have found that after WWII various breeds HAD to be crossed into the few Mastiff lines out there because the breed was close to extinction and the gene pool was so bad that the only way to restore the breed was to use a few similar breeds. I heard they used Great Danes, St's, and Akita's for out crosses....I am sure there were probably more.. The problem is, when you talk about Deer Run breeders, no one really wants to hear it because 99.9% of the Mastiffs World wide go back to his kennel

Alot of the time breeders of Deer run free bloodlines use it just as a selling ploy...That's why they call their dogs clean....Guess they don't want to mention a Bullmastiff that was bred into the Breed in England back in the 1980's either. There's St's in their lines as well as Great Dane, an it didn't come from Deer Run,

I came across that one while searching something else and saved it for just the right time. It is an overall horrid beast to me.  Poor thing, where are his eyes?  It just doesn't seem right for people to breed stuff like that.
