Hey y’all!

This post might annoy some of you, but I’m okay with fewer responses… I was wondering if some of you would like to guess sex of this beautiful chicken, but there’s a catch: I blocked the comb and wattle as I know what the consensus will be if you see it. I’m thinking the comb is misleading as it doesn’t match what sex I think it is, but my friend thinks it actually fits.
It might be too early for sexing based on feathers but I can always come back and update in the coming weeks. (I’ve posted about that bird before but I’m hoping y’all have forgotten hehe)

Chicken is 8 weeks old, was given to me by friend who got it from a breeder. Not sure how serious that breeder is because it was supposed to be a Bielefelder but it’s not… I’m thinking possibly easter egger. (puffy feathers on the cheeks)
So here is a photo dump of that beautiful mystery bird! First picture is at 4 weeks (bird in the middle), the rest is now (8 weeks)

Also, the recent pictures make my little friend look more red-ish than it is… the color is still similar to that 4 weeks-old picture.

This last one, we are seeing its neck and chest, from the front.

And the lastly, here we are seeing bits of cheeks (at the right), then neck and back/side, shot taken from the front.

So there they are, happy guessing!
I’m thinking I’ll keep updating weekly.

Ya I'm one of those that are annoyed by this.

But ya, cockerel.

I know, I’m sorry!! Even I am slightly annoyed/embarrassed with myself 🫣😬

I guess my friend is right… she thinks cockerel but I thought the feathers looked more pullet as they are similar to my other pullet. But hey, I am new at all this and to my untrained eyes they almost all look the same to me.

Is there anyone patient enough to explain to me why the feathers point towards roo?

I was looking for pointy, shiny saddle and hackle feathers but I guess what I am looking for isn’t what I should be looking for.

And for those of you annoyed, here is an unedited picture, with the huge comb 🤦‍♀️ (I was silly enough to still hope for a pullet):

The shiny and pointed male feathers you're looking for won't come in until he's around 12 weeks old at least. What I'm looking at are the actual colors. I'm not entirely sure what his feather pattern is (possibly a partridge based? @MysteryChicken could tell you), but I do know the black feathers coming in on his breast are male specific. He also a dark rusty red color with blocks of color here and there which is uncommon for females to have.

Cockerel.

He'd be Red Partridge.

Male specific hackles, & saddles can appear as early as 4-7 weeks of age.

I personally get the impression that this is a rooster because the feathers are a bit long/narrow. The neck feathers specifically give me the feeling, not 100% sure why (might be a bit saturated for a hen, I guess?).
Funnily, I’ve got some chicks right now that look almost the exact same as yours LOL

Which feathers are you referring to about the black breast feathers? They all look patterned to me?
