keep the dog on a leash and just show them that chickens are not for their eating pleasure. Make them be with the chickens without attacking. I take my dogs into the coop with me. So they know the chickens are feathery toys. I mean if you think about the way dogs work chickens are the coolest treat toys ever. You just have to train the dog that the chickens are yours and not to be messed with. How do you go about chicken training a dog?
My smaller dog won't stop chasing our chickens...but our chickens method of defense is to stick their head in something and lay down...and then he just stands there or wanders off to chase one that will still move...in the coop he just stands beside me...I'm hoping our rooster will peck him one day...The roo has stopped running away, but the hens still get pretty tore up about it.
