Indy the human chicken! She's the only chick to hatch from my first attempt at incubating and she firmly believes she's human, NOT a chicken. She adores us, especially my kids, and follows us everywhere. She sleeps in my room because she refuses to even go near the outside chickens. If they are out, she literally walks back up the path to the house by herself and will forage over there where she knows they aren't allowed to go. At night she has a box in my room to sleep in, and I make her stay in it at night, but the moment the sun is up and she can see me, she's talking up a storm and is jumping in my bed. This morning I heard her a little, not as loud as she usually is, and I drifted back off to sleep. But then about an hour later I felt something that felt like little needles in the back of my knee, so I shifted my knee a little and the needles peeped. I felt the flutter of feathers against the back of my leg and the "needles", which were the tips of her nails, stretched out to touch me again. She had snuck under my blanket and had stretched out until she was touching me! Crazy bird. She's either an EE/Orpington mix (our best guess) or an EE/BLRW mix. I suspect the BLRW cause she's VERY vocal like my SLW's were as chicks. My EE pullet is my quietest chicken and so are my Orpingtons. I had gotten eggs back in early June from someone here on BYC and I set them. 3 developed, 2 hatched, but only Indy lived. Her name is Independence Miracle (my 10 year old DD named her) since she hatched on the 27th, only a few day's before July 4th and the names seemed fitting. We nicknamed her Indy and it has stuck. I sing the song from the tv show Bindi the Jungle Girl except I sing Indy the human chicken, and darn if that bird doesn't know her name! She comes running when she's called and will follow us around the yard and the house. She lays with my dogs and chases the cats. She's a real ham. She also likes my nice foam bed. I have so much nerve damage that I can't sleep on a traditional mattress, so I have a foam mattress with another foam mattress topper on it, so it's super soft, and she will jump up on my bed and stretch completely out and then look at me like "Yeah mom, THIS is where I belong!" But waking up to find her tucked UNDER my blanket this morning was a new one! So I guess even chickens get cold at night...

I was really hoping for pictures.
