Guess what we found in the pasture today? What a shock!!!

Quote:
Most of us yak owners do not bother with milking them. They do not produce much milk, and their teats are much smaller than typical cows' teats are. We raise ours for meat. Royals, like the new baby, are usually used for fiber. Every Spring, they shed their underlayer. People brush is out and sell it to spinners, who turn it into yarn. It's compared to cashmere. I'm not sure how she had a Royal calf, since I don't know who the sire was. Sometimes the gray-noses (Mom is a Gray-Nose Trim) just pop out random prizes.

Whoa, that is really cool!

I saw an episode of Dirty Jobs a few months ago, where he is helping do stuff with yaks, and I was amazed at how agile and graceful they are. It must be really need having them in the back pasture!

heck if its a boy then youve got a pretty nice stud to try and produce some more spotted ones right? as far as her being pregnant again in horses its better to keep them constantly pregnant then yoyoing back and forth. that is provided the mother is in good health and recives good nutrition. perhaps its the same thing with yaks?
