Guidance needed: black color in wound

Hi all, my chicken received an unfortunate puncture wound from a fox attack. This happened on July 4th which caused me to take matters into my own hands as far as injury care because everywhere was closed over the holiday weekend. I have been washing the area thoroughly at least twice daily by using Dawn dish soap and water to cleanse the area. Then applying vitamin E oil and packing the wound with triple antibiotic ointment. Over the last few days the edges of the wound are turning black. There is absolutely no foul odor at this time. I'm wondering if this is a sign of necrotic tissue and if so are there any changes I need to make in treating this injury? Or, if anyone can tell me if this looks to be normal wound healing/scab formation for chickens? I've attached a picture, I know it looks bad but the wound is smaller than the size of a quarter which I read here would most likely not require stitches. Any help is GREATLY appreciated.

I think that using saline or a wound spray would be more gentle on a wound. The Dawn water may be irritating the tissue. If there is any sign of infection, I would use Hibiclens/chlorhexidene and a little water or weak Betadine/EquateFirst Aid Solution at Walmart, but saline works well for normal wound care since it is equal in pH to the body fluids when mixed correctly. Saline can be bought or made at home by adding 2 tsp of salt to a quart/liter of water.

I second the saline. With any open wound something sterile should be used or close to sterile. Dish soap should never be used on open wounds to clean them unless the area around the wound is severely dirty at which you want to use it once then follow it up with a saline rinse after that and every other time you clean and treat it. I also would stop with the vitamin E oil. Eggcessive has good advice for what to use instead.
