guinea attacked by coon

bout 20 min ago heard alot of loud noises outside guinea was being attacked by coon now has big hole in back what to do?

Clean out the wound with saline solution, if you don't have that warm water will do in a pinch. Dry the wound and put some antibiotic cream on it. Can you post a picture of the wound? Also some electralites (sp) in the water will help. I don't know much about Guinea's. Can you keep it inside in the warm and dry?

can you see organs or "just" gash? is it laying down or interested in being up and about? does it seem alert? show interest in food or water? does it pee or poop?


if it is too far gone, can be best to humanely kill. BUT if it still has interest, then a chance. i believe in chances.

have it inside now wound is clean dont have a cam. put a full tube of neosporen in it didn't know what else to do big bite gone from the side of his back about the size of a golfball not moving very much but does't look stressed

The BEST thing right now for him is dark, and quiet and warm. At least for the first 12 hrs or so. I just went through something similar with a hen, from the neighbors little girl. She brought her over, wanted me to " make her better" When I lifted the wing, her innards were hanging out.

The first 12 hrs, she was in a dark cage....warm, with water. The next morning....I flushed the wound...pushed her innards back inside...and slathered it really well with neosporin. She had several puncture woulds as well. I could hear breath sounds...punctured lung I am thinking. I put her back in a dark cage...and offered her water...and crumbles for the next 24 hrs. Then daily, just cleaned the wound..added more neosporin...baby vitamins( liquid ) and boiled egg yolk, with her water and feed. That was just over a month ago, and she is back outside, doing great! Good luck with your little one...you have my prayers.!

Last summer I had a guinea get ran over. (The *&%*@# never even slowed down) I just knew he was dead. He was laying in the road with a broken leg and a hole in his back where the vehicle caught it. About 4" of skin & feathers missing. He moved a little bit when I picked him up, so I brought him in. I fed him high protein feed & put vitamins & anti-biotics in his drinking water. These were placed one on each side of his head so he wouldn't have to move to eat. He still limps, but is now back out with all his friends doing just fine.
