Guinea chick with only one wing.

i have a one week old guinea that has had one of the wings taken off somehow. I am not sure how it happened. It was with my chicks and when I went to check on them ,the guinea's wing had been torn off. I thought the bird would die last night, but it is walking around like nothing has happened to it...Can the guinea survive with just one wing. I have looked on line and can not find any

If it gets past the injury, it will. It will be off balanced probably, and won't be able to get off the ground higher than it can jump. You'll have to keep it safe from predators. Is the entire wing gone? Can you post a picture? Being so young it will be able to adapt better than an older bird.

I added a pic to the original post. I believe he got too close to the side of the coop and a cat was able to grab the wing. Is there any medication ok to put on chicks?

do you have hardware cloth on your brooder? i have seen coons do that with chicken wire. he would be good raised with chickens that dont fly. its the only defense guineas have so maybe in a coop and run?

That looks pretty clean. Is it a deep depression that goes into the body cavity at all? Or does it stop pretty shallow at the body? If it was deep I'd see about covering it with something, but if not I'd let it heal. Birds heal remarkably well on their own. Is it eating and drinking? Are other chicks pecking it? Is it bleeding or secreting anything still?

yes, clean it first with some sterile water then use antibiotic ointment withOUT pain reliever. it is toxic. where the wing attaches is pretty small so it should heal up pretty fast.

It stopped bleeding, and I cleaned it. Just wasn't sure about ointment. I will apply some now. The chicks were only in the coop for a couple hours while the weather was nice. They stay inside for the most part. Thank you for your advice, I hope he pulls through.

Update. He/she lives! I will have a wingless wonder, but a healthy wingless wonder!
