Getting close to building our guinea coop! The plan is to free range during the day and coop in eve. Suggestions on coop location please. They will be backed up to woods either way but is it a good idea to have coop under tree coverage? Or will that make it harder to call them in (wanting to roost in overhead trees instead)?

I have my coop among the trees as they provide shade and keep the coop cooler during the sunny days in the summer.

I taught my guineas that they will not be allowed to roost in the trees or on top of the coop. They are now used to the routine of being herded into the coop for the night.

A mixture of high vegetation and short vegetation works best for the guineas.

This is great! Is there a reason why you went with a lean to roof?

We have a mixture of high and low grass. The coop will back to wooded mixed with grassland. I have 5 acres and neighbor property has 46 butting to it.

How did you teach them not to roost on roof or trees? Throw things at them? I have a lot of trees. I’m trying to learn all I can. They’re interesting birds for sure!

I’m not sure it’s true but I heard about poisoning in tall grass but I’m not sure it’s true.
