To see if it's fertile or not...
If it's fertile you will see a spot on the yolk that shows cell development and resembles a bullseye (white spot with rings around it), which is called a blastoderm. If it's just a small white dot on the yolk, without rings or any noticeable cell development it's called a blastodisc and the egg is not fertile.

I dont know what the proper term is for it but its something like Blastosperm....? Anyway a firtile egg will have one on the yolk when you crack it. It will be a lighter colored spot about the diameter of un popped popcorn. It will look kind of like a bullseye circle within a circle. That is the point where the embryo develops. At that point the embryo is only a few cells in size and invisible but it will be in the center of the bullseye. Here is a thread with some excellent pictures.

Boy, don't I feel stupid.....guess it threw me off...cracking the egg open "and wasting it ?" was my first thought
but then I realized I could find out if it was fertile or not and PeepsCA and Perchie.girl were kind enough to
explain that during my blonde moment.........Thanks to you both and the rest of you as well.

anyway, I cracked open the oldest egg to find a bullseye !!! just like in the picture that PeepCA shared !
It really was cool....cracked open the egg into the spoon and saw nothing...flipped the egg over and
there it was....staring up at me! so guess I will continue collecting my guinea eggs and fire up that incubator!
yee haw !! I'm going to have babies again !! love it! can you tell?
