guinea fowl or geese

Ok, someone told my dh to get guinea fowl to run off predators and keep our chickens safe. I read to put geese to keep them safe. I can't get both, so anyone have experience either way. I live in Maine if that matters

Well, if you're up near Caribou then I'd probably suggest geese since guineas are African and it can get chilly up there so you'd have to take precautions. I suspect geese have an easier time staying warm, all that down, don't ya know.

Then again, I'm living at the 45th parallel here in MI and it's gonna get nippy here too. I like my guineas. Geese have such BIG POOs!

i'd get the geese,,,,i lived in maine my whole life,,been in texas 6 years,,,get the geese,,,,i have a few guineas now,, and they really dont chase much that will chase them back,,small dogs,,cats,,,but geese will chase an elephant!! wow what SAD memories i have of running past our neighbor to get past his geese!! haha

I have 6 kids, will the geese abuse them?

i dont know alot about geese,,, but roosters are just as mean,,,and you can teach them to get along,,, if you (and you should) get chicks,,then always let the kids interact with them,,they should get along fine,,,they usually know who's suppose to be there,,and "who" or "what" is not.
like dogs,,,they all can be trained,,,just sometimes you get that dog that just dont like kids.
