Guinea Fowl Questions

I'm sure you can mix and match colors. I have read that the darker colors have longer laying seasons. I cant speak for anyone else but I have the helmeted breed and they do very well in cold weather. I had one that didnt go in one night. It got down to -17 F. My hubby and I both went out several times trying to roost her out of the tree and she wouldnt budge. She made it through the night with no frost bite, I was so suprised. Oh I forgot to add, you can hear guineas from alot further then 350 ft. I have neighbor that both have them and they are just over a 1/4 mile away on both sides. You can hear everytime they chi chi. Just talk your neibor to getting some too then neither of you can complain.

Glad to hear he survived such a cold temp! Makes me feel better, I get plenty of those up here!

How do you suppose a 500 foot deep line of tall cedar trees would do on muffling the noise? There's a couple neighbors on the next street over who have given their close neighbors headaches about their dogs. Perhaps they'll just think guinea calls are some kind of wild swamp creature?

I get my guineas in 5.5 more days!

If they are that loud I might have to pass on them. I don't need any cheesed off neighbors.

Thanks for everyone's input!

I LOVE my guineas, but had to make a coop for them when I saw them sitting on the neighbors front porch one evening across the highway!!!! I wish they could understand land lines so they could free range again. They are a lot louder now than when they were free to roam, which I can understand.
