In the last 24-36 hrs my guinea hens are just ending up with one leg gone or both being like dead. I have raised guineas for 15 years. I have done nothing different. They have been in the coop and not free ranging due to hawks a d owls right now. They are about 3-4 months old. I am so lost on this one. Their legs just hang there. No injury. We put one down yesterday because both legs were dead. None have a broken leg that I can see. It is just weird. Two from the day before and one last night!

Welcome To BYC

I'm sorry for your loss.

Are they injuring themselves since they are having to be cooped up instead of free ranging?

Nothing has changed in how you raise them, but have you recently purchased any new feed or bedding? It's all fresh, nothing molded in the bags (you never know nowadays, you can get mold feed right from the store). Has the feed formula changed at all?

Losing use of the legs, are they paralyzed or? If you have photos or video, that may be helpful. For video, upload to YouTube and provide a link.

Not sure what is happening. Something toxic, vitamin deficiency...
I'd start them on B-Complex daily for a couple of weeks to see if that helps. 1/4 tablet each bird.

If you lose another one, consider refrigerating the body and sending it to your state lab for analysis, this will often give you information about what has happened and if it's anything you can treat or correct. You can find your lab here:
