Hi, I've posted about Winnie before, but I'll give a not so brief backstory anyway. Winnie has always laid irregularly,, and earlier this year she passed a couple of lash eggs and developed a hanging abdomen.. We treated her with antibiotics after an online consult, and it hasn't happened since. She even laid a couple of normal eggs, but the internal laying has continued.
About two months back she passed a broken shell and some yolk, and her belly got smaller. I've seen her pecking at her belly trying to break them, but Guinea eggs are much harder than chicken eggs. We gave her an epsom soak about 10 days ago, and found her belly covered with what appears to be dried yolk, and I was only able to remove half of it, because it was so hard.
It was below the vent, and I think she actually broke the skin and the yolk seeped out. We just finished up another course of antibiotics, even though she wasn't acting sick. She waddles a bit, has a poopy butt but eats fine and her wattles are red.
Today it looks like she may have added to her collection, based on how big her belly looks. I am wondering if it's possible to lube her vent and push the eggs through it. I know nothing about Guinea anatomy, but I thought it wouldn't hurt to ask.
I know that her time is coming, but she doesn't seem to be suffering, and there are no mobile poultry vets in San Diego County.
So I guess I will have to help her on her way when the time comes, but it won't be easy (for either of us.) She's incredibly strong and will not go gently,, Seems like there should be a pill that would put them to sleep, but sadly there isn't.
As always, I appreciate any thoughts you may have.
Thanks,
Brian
