So a few weeks ago I posted about my slightly confused guinea hen momma. Momma went broody on 11 eggs about 2 weeks after one of my black Australorp hens went broody in a nest above momma. When my hens eggs hatched out she went to caring for them but when they were 3 days old she decided to start roosting back inside the nest whick is 1 ft off the ground. So the little chicks went to momma to sleep under at night. Then during the day the chicks would go back to the hen to go out into the pen.

Well it took momma about 2 days to decide the chicks were hers. So she left her nest to go care for the chicks along with the hen and my 2 guinea cocks. It was an upside down mess since there were only 4 chicks they were all fussing over. So I picked up the guinea eggs and put them into the incubator and put the chicks in with the online chicks I already had. However momma began to pace the fence where the babies were at. She has done this daily, sunup to sundown. So 2 days ago her keets finally hatched and i fixed her a place in the chicken house for her to have her newly hatched keets back. But that wasnt good enough. Momma still wanted her chicks. So I got her 4 little chicks out of the other pen and put them with momma and her little keets along with daddy and the bachelor. They are all happy as they can be teaching the little keets to eat and drink and keeping them warm. I know its often talked about how guineas are terrible mommas. For me thats just said by people who dont bother to understand them and try to raise them like chickens. Idk I may be wrong but from my perspective guineas get an undeserved bad name.

Cute little family! Is it very cold where you are? I’m wondering if your keets need a heat lamp with mom around?
