Guinea Hen

glad you have joined us.

I have no experience with Guinea - but have been told they are the best for bug control, warnings for predators, but not a friendly species. DH's grandmother had quite a few in addition to her layers - but don't know if she housed them all together.

You can post the question to those with experience : here's the link to the Guinea forums : https://www.backyardchickens.com/f/45/guinea-fowl

Hi :welcome

Glad you could join us here! I'm afraid I don't keep Guineas but we do have a couple of free range ones down at the yard where I keep the horse. They sure are fascinating birds with a very distinct if not rather loud alarm call! Please do check out our Guinea section in the learning Center ~ https://www.backyardchickens.com/a/other-backyard-poultry-ducks-quail-turkeys-geese-etc

Wishing you the very best of luck and enjoy BYC :frow

Hi
We keep guinea fowl with chickens, turkeys, peacocks and ducks and all get on well together. We have been keeping them for about 8 months they are all free range and sleep in the high bushes with the rest of the birds.(see picture)

The only thing the guinea laid her eggs when there were 13 she made another hole and laid more, we took the eggs from first hole and put them under one of the chickens to hatch and she did 12 hatched, we did the same with the others as she didn't want to sit on those either LOL.
We have eaten some of her eggs since they are small but when boiled have a delicious creamy taste to them.
