I've been listening to my growing keets, now 4 months old, and I swear I hear at least one of them making the two syllable call. The trouble is, I can't tell which one! And they all look about the same as far as wattle development goes.

So, what do you think? Are they all girls? All boys? Some of each?

Here they are: Huey, Dewey, and Louie

Hi again!

Ok, so this is a bit gross, (they decapitated the birds), but the following link has a study of male and female guinea wattle and helmet shapes/sizes.

http://www.pjbs.org/ijps/fin1227.pdf

According to it, the helmets are about the same size. But, the male is the one that carries the wattles cupped, and the females hang straight down. So would that make Louie (the lavender) the boy, and Huey and Dewey the girls?

That was a pretty good article. The photos came up a little blurry on my monitor but I read the article and can understand what they mean without the pics. I have 5 , 3 mos old keets. I think 3 are girls so far by thier calls. One of the girls definitely has tiny wattles compared to the rest..really tiny lol. I will have to look closer at the other two and see if thier wattles look different than the supposed males. It is hard to tell at this age.
