I just went out to gather eggs and found one of my free range guineas dead. I turned it over to see if I could see signs of trauma. No signs of an animal attack but it had about 1 foot of gut hanging out of its vent. Does anybody know what could have caused this? It was pretty young, hatched last August.

I can't help...sorry. There was a post about this same thing maybe about 2 months ago. I think its head was all slimy too. They thought a snake had killed it but then couldn't swallow it. Maybe something like that happened? I'm sorry about your guinea

That could be the case. We have chicken snakes (Texas Rat Snake) here that average 4-6 feet. It rained that day so the bird was soaked so I couldn't tell if it was slimy. The one thing I could see clearly see was no puncture wounds because of the wet feathers.
