I have heard both ways, that a guinea will attack a snake, and that it wont do anything to a snake. I have rattlers in my area, and would like to know if anyone has had an experience themselves where a guinea attacks or drives off a snake?

thanks

I have heard they will go after snakes. Try searching old threads on the forum, you may find more info that way.

Guineas will not go after large snakes, anything bigger than a foot. I've watched mine skirt larger snakes but their behavior alerted me to something being there so I collected them and moved them from the premises.

I had a four footer living in the Guinea coop, they completely ignored it. I finally caught it and dispatched it.

My guineas sound the alarm when anything is out of place or new, they may eat a very small snake but just harras a bigger snake till it moves on.
This snake lives under the steps at my place, i don't mind him , but hubby kinda gets a rise when he goes down the steps and the snake is laying on the last one, it looks up at my hubby and waits for him to go around

This coon wondered into the safe zone a couple weeks ago, guineas sounded the alarm till there were about 50 of them there , the dog was allerted and took care of the invader.

This was the next morning after i pulled the coon out from under the old backhoe, they were still tatteling on the dead coon.

They may not kill big snakes but will let you know when they are around.

Out here in California, my free range Guineas do kill snakes, they shred the baby snakes (even play tug-o-war with em!) and they make snake sushi out of the adult snakes to the point that they do indeed kill them, or the snake crawls off and dies from all the holes that the Gang of Guineas have pecked into them. I've seen it, so has my neighbor down the road that also breeds and sells Guineas. The adult birds will circle the snake, surround it, scream bloody murder at it, and peck at it from every direction... the snake doesn't know who or what to strike at so it coils up and just hides it's head until it's either dead or has to slither off bleeding and mangled, lol. They always make a major commotion and my dogs start howling, so I always know when they're going after a snake. YEAH!!! GO GUINEAS GO!!!! (Sorry but I hate rattle snakes!!!!!!)

I have never seen my guineas kill a snake but they do sound the alarm when one is around. I can tell you that I use to have copperheads in my flowerbeds every year and they would freak my wife out. Every since freerange guineas, no more copperheads!

The snake probably just commits suicide. I know being surrounded by a flock of screaming guineas would have that effect on me!

zazouse, that first picture is priceless!

I removed a 4 foot long black snake from a chicken coop and tossed it into the yard where a group of 5 or 6 Guineas were. They peered quizzically at, it then just went about their business.
