I decided to get guinea keets, now need advice is it better to teach them to roost in the barn w/ the chickens or in the large trees around our house or build them a new area in the barn just for them? How far up do they like to nest (the barn in two stories, one of which isn't in use)? Thanks for all the advice.

kepp them in the barn or build them a safe roost, but letting them stay in the trees is asking for trouble

If you are raising them with chicks, it is easiest to let them roost with the chickens, if raising them seperate from chickens probably would be easiest to let them have thier own place in the barn, mine roost in rafters, so height shouldnt be a issue, but if you let them roost outside be ready to loose some, I know someone will chime in that they have had guineas roosting in thier trees for years, but that is the exception to the norm. Most that roost in trees become Owl food.

If you let them roost in trees, you will lose some, if not all..

If you want tame guineas, do not let them roost in the trees..

guineas who roost in trees will also sneak away and hide their nests. another dangerous habit, because now they are on the ground and any number of predators can get to them...

disclaimer: I am not looking for an argument.. this is just my opinion and experience with them..

Thanks I am glad to know I am on the right track, I was planning on making them a special place in the barn. I am looking forward to getting them, just a little concerned about the neigh's hopefully they won't be "too loud" I plan to tame them.
