Today my guineas called a male turkey and some hens in while they were up chirping in the orchard! This is about the fifth time now that the turkeys have came to the guinea calls... The strange part was they all ate together under the pear tree until a squirrel jumped out of the tree and caused the guineas to go in alert mode. This not only scared the turkeys half to death but most undoubtedly the squirrel as well...

This behavior though with them feeding together leads me to believe that this happens at other points when I am not home in the day! Never before have I seen them interact so closely.... normally the turkey keep their distance in the yard....

Anyone else ever see this behavior?

That is really cool. Mine are definitely interested in the wild turkeys and I have heard them "talking" to the turkeys when they march across our field (there's kind of a turkey trail thru there), but the turkeys don't come in too close to the guineas.

It made me think of kids that want to run away and join the circus. I can just hear the guineas thinking, hmmm, I could run away and join the turkeys!

That's weird, when I came home from work yesterday, the guineas were across the road in the corn field with at least a dozen wild turkeys. They were just free ranging together. Then that evening, when I called the guineas home for the night, they came without any problems, leaving the turkeys in the corn field. This is the first year I have ever seen them like this. I did have a friend that found a guinea nest that had a turkey egg in with the guinea eggs. It hatched along with the keets and she raised it just like a guinea. It acted just like the guineas too. I wonder what ever happen to it.

Good to know that my guineas are not the only ones hanging out with turkeys!!! Guess if they had a problem at all they would resolve it them selves.... I think my girls could tough it out!!!
