My next door neighbor bought a guinea fowl. He says it will kill the snakes. The problem is in Australia we have brown snakes which are poisonous and also red belly black snakes. Wouldnt the snakes kill the fowl. I have silkies and if a guinea fowl can protect them against snakes I will get a couple. Would a guinea fowl get along with my silkies. Thanks

I don't know about those types of snakes, but I have heard that they kill copperheads and rattlers, which are both poisonous. I have also heard that they will only get the small ones, so if you have a bigger snake around your birds, a guinea would probably run away screaming

Even if they don't kill the big ones, if they throw a fit and alert you (which I'm sure they still will), it could save your chickens and allow you to take the big momma or papa snake out. I've heard larger groups of guineas (8 or 10, I can't remember how many there were in the story I read) cornered a great big snake until the humans could dispatch it.

Thanks if they alert me to a snake I would be just as happy. I am defintely going to look out for some to buy. They look good too. Love there bald head lol
