I never knew about SSS, but I guess thats what I do. Very early on in my married life (now been 24 years), when I was really relying on my poultry, I had a few attacks from dogs. I was lucky once. I caught him, before he got my birds. He was in my coop. I chased all my birds out (that wasn't too hard) and I locked the coop and told my husband and father to deal with it. SSS or maybe just SDS (dump). Problem solved......just need to be quiet after.
I later had problems with another dog and called the police. I never even got a phone call regarding my dead birds. The next time I called the police for the same dogs the deputy told me that if I had a dog attacking my chickens and I needed to protect my animals, I could do whatever I needed to do and no one could do me anything, because I would only be protecting my property and because a dog in my yard, meant someone was violating a leash law.
I would be quiet about it, but you can bet if something comes in my yard to harm my birds, it won't leave if I know about it.
