Your guineas acted like all guineas do. If you had different expectations that’s your fault not theirs. Releasing animals into the wild is irresponsible.
It wasn't really releasing into the wild it was still our property and we had a barn out there. They were released right next to the barn.

You released them to fend for themselves and “never saw them again”

If it was your property or not, that is not what I consider proper animal care.
They still had food, shelter, etc. Their main purpose is to eat ticks anyway. They are also basically wild birds already so they would prefer to roost in trees and roam the fields looking for ticks.
