Guineas

Lockdown happens on day 18, no later than 19. It is when you take your egg turner out, and add water for humidity and wait for your critters to be born. During this time, you do not reopen the incubator until all is hatched. If you have to open it to get some babies out, you need to do it in a hot steamy bathroom and upon removal of the babies leave the incubator in there for about 30 minutes to allow the temperature and humidity to restabilize before you move the incubator back to its original location. Otherwise don't open it until all the babies are born. In the learning section, there is some great information in there on incubation and gail damerow's book on hatching and brooding is awesome.

Lock down happens on day 18 if you are hatching chicken eggs. Since this is the guinea fowl forum, the correct date for lock down for guinea eggs is on day 25 since guinea keets normally hatch between days 26 to 28.

Nice idea about the hot steamy bathroom however there are people who do not have small movable incubators.

Sally Sunshine's Hatching 101 is is an excellent place to start.
