Gunsmoke

Well I was watching this old series in the last few days and was kinda questioning about Matt Dillon's buckskin stallion/gelding.

Did he have three of them on the series? I remember one had a star and the other one was much lighter like a dun and one was more refined and musclar.

How many buckskins did he have on the show? What was their names?

I can not believe the life of me why Festus have to ride a darn MULE!!!!!!!!!!!!

Festus' mule was left over from his Cavalry days. Mules have more endurance than horses so they were the mount of choice for most and for packing. It suits his character!

The Marshall had several horses over the course of the show, they were all very tall, most 16 hands or better because he was such a large man.

I am not sure about Festus riding a mule. He seems to be a bit uncomfortable.

In "The Bullet: Part 1", Festus calls Matt's horse Buck. This is the only time Dillon's horse is given a name in a Gunsmoke episode.
