This morning my rooster was sitting by the feeder, when it tried to get him to walk he started limping. I assumed he landed off the roost wrong like I’ve had a couple hens do in the past so I set him up a kennel so he wouldn’t be bothered and would have easy access to food and water. The reason I’m worried is because five days ago my flock got attacked by some dogs and he started gurgling. I assumed it was a stress induced mycoplasma flare up and have been treating my flock with tylosin. Tonight when I went out to check on him he was layed out on the ground, his breathing is labored and there is discharge coming out of his mouth and nose. I also sound a would in the middle of his back on sprayed that with vetericyn. Any advice, it’s not looking to good and I don’t know why he started going downhill so fast.

I'm sorry about your rooster.

Do you have photos of the injuries/wounds?

I'd check him over for any other injuries besides the one on his back, dogs can leave small puncture wounds along with tears of the skin.

Is the back wound a puncture or ?

What's his crop like?

It may be he suffered some internal injuries if a dog got a hold of him, sometimes all you can do is offer comfort and supportive care. Hopefully he'll improve, but it does sound like he's not doing very well. :hugs

He passed last night. I do not have a picture but one would was a tear and there was one next to it that looked like a pretty deep gouge. It is likely that he died from internal wounds, especially since I didn’t catch his wounds until last night. I’m definitely checking all my hens over for wounds today.

:hugs I'm sorry to hear he didn't make it.
