I have a question about birds that become carriers of contagious diseases. Since most of the more horrible diseases do produce carrier birds, is there a way to use Oxine AH to combat this? If so, how? If not, then what do you recommend for those that show and sell birds that have carriers in their flocks? I would really like to show, at some point, but am afraid that I might come home with more than I left with since, in some instances, a vaccinated flock with, say marek's disease or CRD, could have carrier birds in it, and the owners might not even know and unknowingly bring a bird to a show and expose the other birds. I am on the fence on showing, because of this, so appreciate any answers and info! Thanks ahead of time for any info!

What Oxine does is create an environment where these microorganisms cannot populate. A carrier may show no symptoms, and otherwise be a healthy bird. Responsible breeders who have their flocks tested will not breed from carrier birds. Unfortunately, not all breeders are responsible. Many breeders have their own particular program in regard to protecting their birds in show, depending on what diseases are reported in their local areas. Talk to a breeder recommended from a local poultry club in your area and ask them what they do to protect their show birds. I have Marek's disease in my area, and lots of wild birds, so I'm sure to only allow vaccinated chicks on my property. I don't show birds and mainly raise birds for egg production and my own pleasure. The gamecockers are quite particular about protecting their rooster's ability to survive and have access to supplements not seen in many poultry supply houses.

So Oxine will not stop the bird from becoming a carrier if exposed and contracts the disease? I know that the vaccine for marek's does not stop them from catching the disease but only stops the tumors ( cancer) from growing and may slow down some of the spread from the dander, but have not read any percentages on how much it may slow the spread.

We have had an outbreak in NH of MG/MS, so everything, chicken swaps, ect are shut down statewide. I will check and see if I can find a local or state poultry club and see what they say about how to protect, if possible, a bird while showing. I will not show, if I can not protect my birds though! I had read that Oxine is not a 100% definite cleaner of property and land, is that true? If so, does that mean, that if a flock has Mareks, the disease or carriers, even if all birds are culled, the land is still infected? and if so, for how long?

Yes, I am aware that some breeders that show birds are not responsible, that is why I am hesitant and thinking I shouldn't. I was really looking forward to showing the Heritage birds!!!
