This guy I called slaughters turkeys. He wants $11 for birds over 20 pounds. $13 for birds over 30. $16 for birds over 40 and $21 for anything over 50. I suspect my birds are in the 40 pound range but it is possible they weigh 50. It just seems so expensive to me. I don't want to slaughter them myself so I will probably pay it.. but I thought I'd ask here first and see what you guys had to say about it.

Thanks.

Woah, sounds high to me as well. I only paid $5 to get mine done. :X Maybe you can find some amish in your area to do it? They are usually very reasonable.

Grocery store you can get turkeys for about $4 around Thanksgiving. But I like the idea of eating a turkey I raised myself. I think I will do a little more shopping around. I thought the price sounded unusually high.

Yeah that sounds high. Here there's a polleria/slaughterhouse that charges 10 bucks for turkeys, a little high but not that bad. With the distance issues it's quite worth it.

Sounds very high to me too! $5 or $10 sounds more like it, from what I have heard, but I do mine myself. The first time I killed anything was the hardest, and yes, I am a 4'10" old woman, but no match for my 80 pound turkeys! LOL

Over 50 pounds, the birds might have to be hand plucked (not fit into the plucker). That's going to cost a lot more.

I always figure that when the price is high, they don't really want to do them. If you insist, they will process them, but you are going to have to pay for the service.

I do my own, but if you are not capable of processing a bird, then look around and see if you can find someone who is more eager to get your business.
