Disturbing SARS tidbit, this thing is proving a tough criter, surving longer than commonly thought possible in the external environment.

Totals:
3861 Cumulative no. case(s)
495 new cases since last WHO update
217 deaths (included in cumulative)
1873 recovered

"... a CDC expert as saying that the virus can remain potent on objects much longer than previously thought: "....in their studies, they found that you could still culture viable virus from surfaces after as much as 24 hours, which is longer than we normally expect viruses to be able to survive in the environment."

Hey, Imp from the other Washington! That is SO TRUE! I too am a hospital worker, I was able to earn a few premium pay extra shifts when the flu hit middle Illinois. Plus The Kids got a few days off at home (now they're Oprah fans).

Past few years I'd offer my hubby a flu shot, free, courtesy of my hospital employers. He's so funny, "Flu shot? Are you kidding? The flu is at least a week home from work! I'm takin' it!"

I did have one poor lady, over 90years old, who ended up with terribly painful mouth/throat sores after her bad respiratory bout with her case of confirmed H1N1. So some people really do suffer, either from the virus itself or from the treatments of the viral infection. Some people get bad infections. Most of us don't. I suppose that's the thing we need compassion for.

Hi 6 Chickens...,
Remind your hubby that sick is 24 hrs a day. Ugh! I'm glad I don't get sick.
I never go without a flu shot, wouldn't even consider it. I always wait till I get my shot, then tell the EH nurse thanks that's the 4th one this week. Eyes get really big.
