:hitSo yesterday at some point we had a power cut and I wasn’t home.
It was off for long enough as we lost a few quail chicks :hit and I’m guessing we have also lost all 48 eggs in the incubator.
As when I got home and restarted it, it was only on 17•c :hitthey were only on day 5 too ‍♀️

I'm sorry for your loss.

Don't give up on the eggs. If you got the incubator running again, I'm sure a few eggs will survive. They are more resilient than you think. Sometimes with a broody, she will be prevented from going back to her nest for some reason or another and those eggs turn out fine.

I’ve left them in the incubator for now, was tempted to try torching them tonight and seeing if I can see anything developing.
Luckily we only lost 4/5 quail out of a total of 30 & the others recovered pretty well, I don’t think they died from heat loss I think they died from being squashed when everyone bundled in as the dead ones were all in one corner.
The survivors were active again after around 10mins of the heat coming back on so they were pretty quick to spring back.

Omg, I'm so sorry to hear about your losses!!!! Have you considered a backup generator? We live in the middle of no where & power outages are a normal part of life. You don't need to invest in a whole house/giant generator a small one should do fine. Also, I don't know if your state does it but here in VA, smaller generators qualify for the tax free weekend.

Best of luck with yours eggs!!!!

If the eggs were only day 5, they may still be viable. A day-5 embryo is pretty small and simple, just a bundle of cells, which means it may have just been slowed down a bit and not killed.
