So I've been thinking, next year I want to make my backyard into a wild environment for my chickens. I've read that chickens don't really like cut grass lawn and are more interested in an overgrown environment with grass and many other plants. A that's what I want to have for chickens o I was thinking how you'd I get something like that because there are 3 giant trees in my backyard that block out the light from my partially grass-covered yard.

We let ours grow long then release the girls while we mow and let the fun begin. When we mow all the bugs get moving. We call it a dinner party and they love it. Gotta really be paying attention though cuz they will not move if their in your path. I'm sure your flock would love that lots of goodies to hunt for.

That's a beautiful yard that you have and don't want. A nice compromise would be to change the back portion from the big tree back into what you want to have, keep the front nice and grassy so you can cut it and allow the chickens in to do the big dance party jonezjoyfarm mentioned.

Wish my grass looked like that. I'd gladly trade my 1/3 acre of tall grass & yuk, for your beautiful lawn.
