Yep, today is the first hen I have had to cull since starting down this chicken odyssey in 2/2010. Went out to the new coop to gather eggs and there was one of my EE's sitting in a nest box looking like a wet rat. Her feathers were at least 50% gone and she was draining mucus from her beak. There was no neurological s/s like uncoordinated gait, crooked neck, etc. Would coccidiosis be a possibility? I do not think it is Marek's. I will be watching the flock very closely for the next few days for similar s/s. How quickly can respiratory conditions spread or develop? I hadn't seen it sick over the last couple of days...

Any ideas? All replies are appreciated!

I wish I had some answers for you

I am so sorry for your loss. That's a very difficult thing to have to do, but I think that you made the right choice.
