I've got about half of our current plot of land (1 acre) that is devoid of plant life after the destruction that ensued during the house set up. No trees, no grass, no weeds just sand and some topsoil. I was wondering what I could plant our there that would

a) Help me keep the soil from leaving when it rains.
b) Feed to the chickens.

Corn? Wheat? Some other grain like maize or milo? Sunflowers?

As always any advice is appreciated.

Millet (birdseed)- wild birds will eat it too.
Wheat

I have grown those two and the nice thing is the chickens will harvest it for you. (You may have to bend the wheat plants a bit for them, like stomp on them.)

But since it is already June you may want to look up the length of time it needs until harvest to see if you have enough time. Also can you water it, etc.
